Nancy Wake was an avid Nazi hater. By the end of WWII she had become the Gestapo's most wanted person who they code-named "White Mouse”. During the War she helped establish a highly efficient escape network for getting shot down allied airmen out of German-occupied France back to England. Due to the efforts of the SS she was forced to flee France but returned as an agent working for the British Special Operations Executive. Under her British code name, Madame Andrée, she helped to build and equip the powerful and efficient Maquis.

Nancy Wake became one of the most highly decorated individuals of the second world War. She received the Croix d'Officier de la Legion d'Honneur, Croix de Guerre with two palms and Bar, Croix de Guerre with star, Medaille de la Resistance, Chevalier de Legion d'Honneur, Medal of Freedom with Bronze Palm, George Medal, 1939-45 Star, Defence Medal, War Medal 1939-45 and the France and Germany Star.
